The main dune viewpoint is just a 5-10 minute walk from the city center, but the spot locals love is Sky Bunda. Check it out!

Depending on your level, this legendary 7 km downwind from Cumbuco to Cauipe Lagoon takes between 20 minutes and an hour. A heads-up: past Wai Wai, the wind can get gusty close to shore, and there are some rocks near the lagoon entrance — go with a local if you are unsure (Leticia loves this downwind, ask her!). Cauipe itself is one of Brazil's most celebrated flat-water kite spots, having hosted international freestyle competitions for years. A must-do for any kitesurfer visiting the northeast.

Every evening, the streets of Cumbuco's city center fill up with food stalls where you can eat well for 20-40 BRL (around 3-4 euros). Look out for Dora, an older woman with grey hair who will fill your plate and your heart in equal measure.

There's no shortage of açaí spots in Cumbuco. Our favourite is right across from Super Cumbuco, with a great selection of fresh tropical fruit toppings.

Cumbuco has one of the most open and multicultural kite communities in Brazil. Within days, you'll know half the town. Soak it up — some of the more remote kite spots further north are a lot quieter.
